Alexandra Simpson, the new Chief of Mission of IOM DRC
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is pleased to welcome its new Chief of Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ms. Alexandra Simpson, who succeeds Mr. Fabien Sambussy.
Alexandra Simpson has more than 20 years of experience within the United Nations and related organizations. She has worked in the fields of humanitarian aid, development, and peace. She has extensive experience in issues related to UN integration, transitioning peacekeeping operations, and sustainable development, including migration.
Before joining IOM in DRC, Alexandra Simpson led the analysis center of the joint mission for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). There, she worked on a comprehensive analysis of all factors impacting the United Nations' presence, in close coordination with agencies, funds, and programs.
Alexandra Simpson led the Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) team in Afghanistan, Sudan, and the Philippines. She also served in various UN missions in Haiti, the Central African Republic, and Somalia, where she held positions such as head of civil affairs, mission analyst, mission planning officer, and special assistant.
The team is excited about the impact her leadership will have on the mission and the communities we serve. Her much-anticipated arrival promises a renewed dynamic for efforts to promote humane and orderly migration in the DRC.
