In an effort to improve the living conditions for displaced people in North Kivu, 1,102 households initially settled in high-risk or unsuitable areas were relocated to newly constructed shelters in planned sites during the third quarter of 2024.

726 households (1,879 individuals), who previously resided in collective centers such as EP Kingarame, EP Mbonga, EP Munigi CBCE, and Institut Mugara 1-2-3 on the Kanyaruchinya axis, have been transferred to the Bushagara site managed by IOM through the NGO AIDES. These transfers are necessary not only because of the overcrowded and dangerous living conditions in the collective centers, where displaced families face inadequate housing, limited access to basic services, and exposure to protection risks, but also to enable the resumption of regular activities in these locations (particularly school attendance).

Additionally, 376 households were relocated from areas at high risk of gas emissions to safer zones within the Lac Vert/Bulengo site. Concurrently, high-risk areas were demarcated, and signage was installed, accompanied by mass campaigns to educate the community about the dangers of gas emissions and to prevent further settlement in these areas.
